The Abondance cattle are a dual-purpose breed of cattle that are raised for both milk and meat production. They are a breed of cows that originated in Haute-Savoie, France’s high valleys. They were initially called the Chablaisienne.

Where they were filmed from the monks of this Abbaye de Saint-Maurice d’Agaune since the 12th century, and they actually came from the Chablais in Haute-Savoie.
Abondance Cattle Characteristics
Abondance cattle are medium-sized creatures. The cows are primarily golden brown in color with the white-colored underside of their stomach, head (apart from the eyes) and extremities of their legs. The shade of the bulls differs. The bulls are of chestnut red color and a bit of white on the mind. Both bulls and cows have horns.
The average elevation of these Abondance cows is about 130 cm, and the bulls are a lot bigger than the cows. The height of the bulls is around 170 cm. The mature bulls on weighing between 645 and 820 pounds. And typical live body weight of the mature cows varies from 580 to 680 kg.
The Abondance cows are animals. They are valued because of their ability. They are also noted for their fertility, ease of long life, breeding and meat and milk production. Their meat is of good quality. The cows are good milk producers. Milk production of these Abondance cows is kg per lactation. Their milk is of superior quality that’s rich in both fat and protein content. Their milk is traditionally used to generate Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) cheese such as the reblochon, abondance, tome des Bauges and also the Beaufort.
Presently there is approximately 150,000 head of this Abondance cattle breed. They Also Have been exported to the United Kingdom, Iraq, New Zealand, North America, and Africa. They’ve been cross-bred in West Africa.
