The Agerolese cows are a breed of dairy cows. They’re employed primarily for milk production. The Agerolese cows are a breed of dairy cattle that are raised for milk production. It’s actually from the Region of Agerola, in Campania. It derives from cross-breeding of native Podolica cattle with Bruna Italiana, Italian Holstein-Friesian and Jersey cows.
The breed is associated with the Sorrento Peninsula and Monti Lattari.

The Agerolese cows breed is one of the 16 small Italian cows breeds of limited diffusion recognized and protected by the Ministero Delle Politiche Agricole Alimentari e Forestali, the Italian Ministry of agriculture. There were a total of 200 creatures available according to a census. One of these 200 creatures, there were 103 mature (85 cows and 18 bulls).
Agerolese Cattle Characteristics
Cattle that are agerolese are medium-sized creatures. The bulls are black in color and the cows are often brown. Both bulls and cows have horns and have a light dorsal stripe. The horns are medium-sized and the muzzle’s tip is whitish. Body height of the Agerolese bulls range from 130-135 cm at the withers, and around 120-123 cm for the cows. The average bodyweight of the cows differ from 380-450 kg. Along with the bulls on the typical burden between 650 and 600 kg.
Cattle are well adapted for their climates. They are chiefly employed as a dairy and great for milk production. Their milk production is all about 2500 kg for primiparous and approximately 3500 kg for pluriparous cows.
Sometimes the cows can produce approximately 20 kg of milk every day with over 3.5 percent of fat content. Their milk is used for producing butter and Italian cheeses like Fior di Latte and Provolone del Monaco. The breed’s conservation status was reported as ‘endangered-maintained’ from the FAO in 2007. Currently, It’s mainly dispersed in Sorrento Peninsula Monti Lattari and Campania.
