Deoni cow is a native breed of India. It is known by a few other names. Like Dongari Deccani, Dongarpati or Surti. Deoni cows breed originated from the taluks of Bhalki, Bidar, and Basavakalyan of Bidar district.
The name of the breed Deoni comes from the Deoni Taluka of Latur district of Maharashtra. It’s thought of in India an important dual-purpose cows breed. And they’re proven to be milk yielders and draft animals.
It’s considered that’the Deoni cows have been created from a breed descended from a mix of Dangi, Gir and neighborhood cows’. The formation of the ears and head of Deoni cows, and of the horn into a certain scope is very evident of a donation in the Gir type cows.
Ruggedness and their conformation are much like the Dangi cows. With Jersey and Holstein are milk yielders Deoni cows spans. The cows breed is very well known at districts of Maharashtra and Karnataka and the tracts of Telangana.
Deoni Cow Characteristics
Deoni cow is a medium-sized creature. It looks like the Gir in construction to a huge extent. Their body is symmetrical and developed with muscles that are different. The Deoni cows can be found in three color variants.
These versions are; white with irregular black spots (Shevera), transparent white with black color in the surfaces of the face (Wannera) and transparent white with black spots on the lower side of their human body (Balankya). Their skin is sensitive and connected. Deoni cattle’s mind is broad, alert, masculine and convex. Their mind is completely white at the Balankya breed and white and black in Shevera and Wannera strain.
Their horns are both moderate and thick. The chest is deep and broad. Their ears are very long and drooping with tips that are curved.
The eyebrow of Deoni cows is notable, wide, slightly bulged and white in color in all the 3 breeds. Their eyes are bright outstanding and attentive. The tips of the horns are all blunt. They have a well developed and powerful throat.
Along with the hump is little in cattle and enormous and well developed in bulls. Their dewlap is thick, pendulous (much less pendulous in cows compared to the bulls) and muscle with folds.
The udder of Deoni cow is well attached and moderate-sized with squarely positioned black teats. The cattle’s tail is reaching beneath the hock with switch.
Their hooves are black in color and are stylish and made. Scrotums of size easily characterize the Deoni bulls. Body fat of Deoni cows ranges from 432-485 kg in cattle and out of 620-680 kg from bulls.

Deoni Cow Temperament
Deoni cows are a docile and calm strain. They’re extremely hardy and the bullocks are great for work. The cows are milkers, producing about 1135 kg at a period of 300 days. Along with the average fat content in the milk of Deoni cows is about 4.3 percent. The average age at first calving is about 46 weeks, and their estrus is normally shown by cows.
In India, the Deoni cows are often maintained by grazing in fallow lands, arid lands or bunds of those farms. The breed is well adapted for climate, and they constitute a significant cattle source of India. The lifespan of Deoni cows is around 15 years.
