Faverolles Chickens are very popular as a dual-purpose breed and mostly raised for novelty and exhibition. They were created as a utility fowl from the 1860s in north-central France (in the vicinity of the cities of Houdan and Faverolles).
Several different chicken breeds were used for creating this breed. Like Brahma, Crevecoeur, Coucou de Rennes, Dorking, Houdan and possibly the Cochin.
Faverolles chicken was bred specially for meat production purpose. But they also produce a number of eggs, which means they are authentic dual-purpose birds.

There are lots of color varieties of Faverolles chicken. But the varieties aren’t recognized by the American Poultry Association’s Standard of Perfection.
Salmon range of Faverolles chicken has been approved to white number in 1981, and the American Poultry Association‘s Standard of Perfection in 1914. There are bantam varieties available of the strain.
They have red earlobes and the skin color is white. Hens are layers of pale brown to brightly eggs. On a typical, Faverolles roosters pounds about 5 kg and hens about 4.3 kg. Faverolles hens will lay up to 150 to 200 eggs per year.
Faverolles chicken is a large-sized breed having a blossom, feathered shanks, muff and 5th toe (instead of usual four). The most common color of the breed is Salmon.
The plumage of salmon hens is brown and white. But the males are darker, with brown, black and straw-colored feathers. Other color varieties of Faverolles chicken include cuckoo, blue, black, ermine, and splash.
They have wings that are small and a medium-sized vertical comb with no serrations and five points. Their neck is short, the head is broad and round and the eyes are bay.
Roosters are large and magnificent and colored in black, straw and reddish-brown. Baby girls are creamy-white with fuzzy legs muff, and toe.
Chicken is friendly, tender and calm. And that is why it has become a popular breed for increasing as pets. They are even safe for kids. They’re excellent alternatives as a dual-purpose breed for both eggs and meat manufacturing.
Hens are good layers and can lay over winter. They also make good mothers and excellent broodies. Faverolles chickens are great foragers chicks will forage from a young age. However, this breed can also perform well in confinement.
Chicks grow in care and superior feeding and development. As they have small feathering that they are best for chilly conditions. Their average lifespan is around 5-7 years.
