Legbar Chicken Characteristics

The Legbar poultry is a British strain Made by Reginald Crundall Punnett and Michael Pease. It is a rare breed that was designed from the early 20th century at Cambridge University’s Genetical Institute.

For producing this chicken strain the aim was supposed to make a utility breed having a focus on eggs. Legbar poultry is a breed, so females and the men can easily be distinguished by their color.

A breeding program was used by the programmers using two egg whites; chicken and the Barred Plymouth Rock. The Barred Plymouth Rock has been utilized for introducing receptors to the Leghorn.

The Gold Legbar chicken was first standardized in 1945 and has been made by crossing Brown Leghorn and Barred Plymouth Rock. By crossing the Gold Legbar with White Leghorn and Silver Cambar the Silver Lagbar chicken Was Made in 1951.

Along with crossing Araucana chicken and White Leghorn made also the Cream Legbar chicken. Cream Legbar was first standardized in 1958 but died in the 1970s. Since blue eggs aren’t in demand.

Legbar Chicken

Legbar chicken’s look is very similar to that of barred Leghorn chicken. The Legbar roosters are muscle and business birds using a wedge-shaped breast along with the body. They’ve back, and their wings are transported close to the body.
