The Red cows are a dual-purpose strain of national cows that’s increased for both meat and milk production. The strain developed because 1970s in Norway, as its name implies. It’s mainly a milk cattle breed that’s been chosen with focus on traits such as fertility and health, for a breeding goal.
The Red cows are used for both meat and milk production. But they’re mainly used for milk production.
The strain was designed through spans of milk cattle breeds with various Nordic strains, for instance, Northern Red-and-White, Red Trondheim along with the Red Polled Østland. Ayrshires, Friesians, Holsteins and Swedish Red-and-Whites etc., are various other cattle breeds that have been believed to add to the gene pool.
The Red cows became the most dominant breed in it’s native place, comprising 98% of their total cattle population. For crossbreeding with cows in the USA dairy market, seed/embryo of the breed is often exported.
Now the strain is available in over 20 countries across the world, such as Italy, Poland, United Kingdom and United States. Presently it’s a Continental European strain that is favorite.
Norwegian Red Cattle Features
Norwegian Red cows are moderate to large sized creatures with amazing coloration. They don’t say the uniformity though they are red-pied or reddish for the large part found in strain. They are white and black generally white and reddish . The critters were horned. However, better part of the Red cows now are polled.
The typical height of the Deadly Red cows is roughly 137 cm at the withers and approximately 145 cm for those bulls. The cow’s weight approximately 600 pounds. The bulls are a lot bigger compared to cows. And typical body fat of the bulls is roughly 1300 pounds.
The Red cows are famous for their durability and disease-resistance power. The cows are milk manufacturers that are very great and they produce excellent quality milk. Their milk comprise approximately 3.4 per cent protein and approximately 4.2 percentage of fat. Milk yield is left up to 6000 kg per lactation. The strain is also great for beef production. The men on average rise at the speed of 1.4 kg each day.
