Unique Chamois Colored Goat

Chamois Colored goat is a dual-purpose national breed of Switzerland. It’s largely used for meat and milk production.

The  Chamois in French called as Chèvre chamoisée, in German they are called as Gämsfarbige Gebirgsziege and in Italian  Camosciata Delle Alpi.

It’s dispersed throughout Switzerland and in areas of northern Italy and Austria, and has been exported to different nations including France.

There are two kinds of Chamois :

  • A horned form from the Grisons or Graubünden from the eastern part of the country.
  • A hornless form from the Brienz of Oberhasli along with the Region of Brienz and Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland in central Switzerland.

Chamois Colored Goat Facts

They are brownish with back stripe black face-stripes, stomach and thighs.

The wool color is brownish with a black dorsal stripe and lower limbs.

The face color is brownish with black facial stripes

The bucks are bearded.

Chamois Colored Goat Origin

In Switzerland, the Chamois Coloured Goat is one of the national goat strains where a herd-book is retained from the Schweizerischer Ziegenzuchtverband.
